NAMPORT REQUIREMENTS

i)  The days that Vehicles are stored free of charge at the port's premises has been increased from 3 days to 5 days by Nambia Ports Authority. When they are released from the ship, vehicles will be stored for 5 days at no cost after which Namport will start charging on a daily basis depending on the space the vehicle is occupying (Length).

ii) To avoid this extra charge make sure you have all the relevant documents with you upon arrival in Namibia for speedy processing of vehicle's release.

iii) To avoid spending more than you budgeted for on accommodation, food, etc, etc, do not start -off for Namibia until you receive a call or email confirming the ship's arrival on a specific definite date.

COSTS TO PREPARE FOR WHEN IMPORTING A VEHICLE

The basic financial costs you need to be able to meet are as follows;

1.* The price of the vehicles

2.* The cost of delivery to the Port

3.* The cost of Shipping

4.* The cost of Port Clearance

5.* The cost of delivery to you or the border

6.* The cost of Customs Duty & Tax (This includes Release order at Namibian border of N$300.00 (If it has not gone up) and relevant requirements by the country of your destination).

7.*VAT and Insurance requirements in your country -Eg. You have to pay car insurance at the border in Zambia.

8.*The cost of Registration & Licensing in your country of residence.

9.*Age of cars and other vehicles accepted for import in your country. E.g. Namibia -8 Years, Angola 3 years. Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and DR of the Congo do not have any age restrictions.

So before attempting to buy a car,  always make sure your finances can meet these basic costs, and that all legal requirements are adhered to (although delivery to port & delivery to you are optional. You can organize that yourself- the rest are costs you CANNOT avoid).
